When setting up a new shipping integration with a courier company or parcel post provider it is often difficult to choose which solution will work best for you as there are usually multiple companies that offer extensions for the same courier company. How do you know which on is best for you?

We are often meeting clients that are setting up a new store and/or adding a new shipping extension to a current store and finding the ‘stock’ extensions available don’t fully cater for our client’s needs.

The Requirements

We have recently setup Australia Post eParcel shipping using Parcel Post and Express Post, alongside StarTrack Express Road Courier & Air Courier as per the requirements of our client.

Our clients solution required both shipping integrations to work alongside each other and provide live shipping estimates based on order size and weight, individually for both extension.

The Solution

To fulfil our clients requirements, we added functionality to the existing extension to provide estimated shipping information on the product pages. We also had to add a calculating function to asses when there was a requirement for additional packages or boxes per order based on max size or weight. The calculation function would asses how many satchels or boxes would be required per order and provide an accurate shipping amount at the checkout. This function would be actioned when a customer would move from the store, clicking on the ‘Checkout’ button.
